Music and Youth Culture Task 5:
1a) Taylor Swift
- Although Swift spent many of her early years on her family's Christmas tree farm, she often visited Tennessee in order to pursue her singing career. At the 'country music capital' she often co-wrote songs to try and land a recording contract.
- I think maybe the fact that a lot of her albums had her name on them helped to directly advertise her as a product and help in spreading her name to wider audiences. It also made it seem more personal for her listeners, which could also explain why Taylor Swift has became so increasingly popular over the years.
- Because a lot of her songs tend to be about relationships and breakups and are normally quite empowering, it means that her audience demographic can be quite niche and consist of younger girls, maybe teenagers. However, her music can also appeal to a wider audience, also consisting of older females and males of a younger age.
1b)1c) I think young people using pop
stars as role models can have both
positive and negative effects. On one hand, it can lead to young people being inspired to be better people or fill the younger generation with ambitions and a passion to be like their role model pop-star. However, it can also have negative effects. Sometimes, pop-stars are a fake people and sometimes put on an 'act' when performing. Young people aspiring to be someone who isn't actually being truthful can have negative effects because they are falling into a false identity and aspiring to be like someone, who might not be anything like that in real life.
