Music and Youth Culture Task 2:

2) Michael Jackson is my example of a star that links to Richard Dyers' Theory. Firstly, he is very well known and often associated with his dance move 'The Moon Walk' and is often remembered for his style of dress, which included a white glove, black blazer, trousers and a black hat. Obviously, Michael Jackson didn't moon walk everywhere, which conveys that he had a construction. In addition, he wouldn't have dressed like he did on stage or in music videos in real life, which also suggests he had a construction. Furthermore, he had commodity as a lot of merchandise was created. Also, modern well-known artists like Bruno Mars share a lot of his characteristics. Michael Jackson used his music to represent his views and, consequently, educate his listeners. Many of his songs portrayed didactic messages, for example; 'Heal the World' and 'Earth Song'. Both of these songs have important messages about society behind them and about the environment. Because of this, Michael Jackson had ideologies, which fits the criteria set in Dyers' Star Theory. Richard Dyer also stated that the star had to be 'ordinary and extraordinary'. Michael Jackson had an ordinary life and was an ordinary man, which juxtaposed his extravagant and extroverted stage presence. Finally, it is said in Dyers' Star Theory that the star must be both present and absent. Michael Jackson died
on the 25th June 2009 and still, to this day, people continue to listen to his music, purchase his merchandise and his legacy lives on. Some people have even created theories about the possibility that he may still be alive, which suggests they cant let him go and desperately want to try and bring him back, despite the fact that he has passed away.

 Here, in this advert from the 1950s, a woman is displayed in a kitchen with the slogan, "another day in paradise".This conveys how society moulded women into people who would enjoy staying at home in the kitchen, cooking and cleaning for their husbands and families. Also, the fact that the woman is wearing a lot of makeup with a very feminine and stylish hair-do, suggest that society had an ideology that women should be very feminine with long hair and that they should sit looking pretty. This supports Judith Butler's theory that society moulds people into how they think they should act, according to their gender. They use the media like a sort of propaganda to brainwash people into believing their theories on what is being an 'acceptable' (stereotypical) man or woman.

Photography Project Task 3:

The Rule Of Thirds: By using the 'Rule Of Thirds', it allows photographers to capture well-balanced shots and is something that most photographers learn in their beginning stages. Studies have shown that the eyes of people naturally go to the intersection points (lines on the 9 square grid that appears when taking an image.) By lining the most interesting parts of the scene/ thing you want to capture with the intersection points, will cause your image to be more 'balanced' and have a better effect.  In these examples, you can see that the most interesting parts of the images are in-line with the intersection points.

Task 3:

1) Watch the short film 'Colourbleed'. 2) This short film could be considered creative because of the costumes used. The way they make the girl dress a lot more colourfully compared to the other characters in the short film instantly represents the girl as a creative person, more creative than the others. Also, the graphics used are really creative for example, the way they make her bleed colour and bring colour to anything she touches. I think it is creative because a normal person would just bleed red blood but its the fact she bleeds colour. The music used is very intense at certain parts of the film and builds tension for the person watching the film. Finally, the different shot types are creative because they film her and other characters from all angles. This is creative and effective because they zoom in on her face and show her expressions, informing the audience on how she is feeling and showing her make up, which is also quite bold.
