Why are Alfred Hitchcock's films so famous?

Alfred Hitchcock managed to have very good camera angles and shots, despite the act that he worked from the silent era into the 1970's. Also, because he didn't have access to the very advanced technology like we do today, it meant the great shots he managed to capture and  the scenes, that he blended so effortlessly, made his films even more enjoyable to watch. An example of his talent with shots can be shown in the fake shots, like the stairwell fall in 'Psycho'. Also, he had a great way of infusing humour into even the scariest and most disturbing films. Because he did this so successfully, made the characters and the films, that he produced, so memorable for his audience. Finally, Hitchcock managed to break the boundaries with his films. In Psycho, he took a great risk by killing the main character off halfway through the film.

 Here, in this advert from the 1950s, a woman is displayed in a kitchen with the slogan, "another day in paradise".This conveys how society moulded women into people who would enjoy staying at home in the kitchen, cooking and cleaning for their husbands and families. Also, the fact that the woman is wearing a lot of makeup with a very feminine and stylish hair-do, suggest that society had an ideology that women should be very feminine with long hair and that they should sit looking pretty. This supports Judith Butler's theory that society moulds people into how they think they should act, according to their gender. They use the media like a sort of propaganda to brainwash people into believing their theories on what is being an 'acceptable' (stereotypical) man or woman.

Photography Project Task 3:

The Rule Of Thirds: By using the 'Rule Of Thirds', it allows photographers to capture well-balanced shots and is something that most photographers learn in their beginning stages. Studies have shown that the eyes of people naturally go to the intersection points (lines on the 9 square grid that appears when taking an image.) By lining the most interesting parts of the scene/ thing you want to capture with the intersection points, will cause your image to be more 'balanced' and have a better effect.  In these examples, you can see that the most interesting parts of the images are in-line with the intersection points.

Task 3:

1) Watch the short film 'Colourbleed'. 2) This short film could be considered creative because of the costumes used. The way they make the girl dress a lot more colourfully compared to the other characters in the short film instantly represents the girl as a creative person, more creative than the others. Also, the graphics used are really creative for example, the way they make her bleed colour and bring colour to anything she touches. I think it is creative because a normal person would just bleed red blood but its the fact she bleeds colour. The music used is very intense at certain parts of the film and builds tension for the person watching the film. Finally, the different shot types are creative because they film her and other characters from all angles. This is creative and effective because they zoom in on her face and show her expressions, informing the audience on how she is feeling and showing her make up, which is also quite bold.
